UNITED WAY OF HERNANDO COUNTY
"WHAT MATTERS"

COMMUNITY PROBLEM SOLVER:

· We are active participants in the Community Alliance, a group that brings all non-profit agencies together to discuss problems and needs in Hernando Co.

· We visit every service provider to audit the use of their allocation.
We carefully examine their services to make certain community needs
are being met by their agency.

· We work with partners to provide emergency funds to those most vulnerable.

· We understand the needs of the community through our
information and referral services.

We impact lives and strengthen communities by mobilizing volunteers.

HELPING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES:

· Mentoring has proven to be an effective method of helping a child.
Our provider matches children with caring adults.

· Girl Scouts and Boys Scouts have produced great leaders.
We can’t all be great leaders but we can help a child achieve
positive outcome through scouting programs.

· Daycare is provided for Moms that want to work but can’t afford
 traditional care for their children.

· Youth and Families are provided with early intervention services
for those who are truant, runaways and/or ungovernable.

· Poor families receive food, clothing, housing, and medical
assistance from several of our providers.

· Kids have safe places to go after school and on weekends.

IMPROVING HEALTH AND HEALING:

· Several providers help caretakers with respite care if your loved one
is terminally ill or suffering from a debilitating disease.

· Physically and mentally challenged are given every opportunity to have
a normal lifestyle thanks to many Hernando County United Way funded agencies.

· Men and women suffer abuse at the hands of someone they trusted
Shelters are available and provide a safe environment for parents and children.

· The blind, hard of hearing, or chronically ill are
all helped by partners of the United Way.

INCREASES SELF SUFFICIENCY:

· With a little sweat equity and good credit, you can help build
the home of your dreams. Volunteers from all walks of life will be
there to assist you in fulfilling your dream of a family home.

· Is your eyesight or your hearing keeping you from getting a good job?
Agencies are right here to help you.

· Have you ruined your credit, or can’t sleep at night because of bills, bills, bills?
A United Way funded agency can change that cycle for you.

· Can’t read? Embarrassed to tell someone? Adult literacy is more common than you think. Many times it is discovered when the children start to attend school and Mom or Dad can’t read the teacher’s notes. Programs are available to teach everyone in Hernando County to read.

PROVIDING FOR EMERGENCY NEEDS:

· Information and Referral to services, whatever your need,
is available by calling the United Way office.

· If you’ve lost your home to fire or natural disaster,
agencies are here to help you.

· Those who are hungry, homeless, or without utilities look to local
services for assistance.

· As people lost their jobs, United Way helped them meet their
needs through a special donation from Publix.
